A World of Wonder

The sun was gone and evening sprang
into the sky leaving shadows of the day on
the future that awaits you as you
dream of places you might go
in a life you do not know
sitting on a stool of hopes waiting for your vine of
wishes to be climbed and become reality.

Carolina Blue

Carolina blue was the color that day
It was the color of excitement, pleasure, and leeway

Duke vs. North Carolina in O.T.
It was the finest game you could ever have seen

I was in North Carolina with my dad and two friends
the smell of popcorn and hot dogs really did blend

The game had everything: threes and dunks
With Duke's last shot the game was sunk.

...And Your Best Friend Whispering

Distracted is…
when your best friend starts whispering
from across the classroom,
trying to steal your attention,
that is stuck to the teacher's lips,
which are explaining the test
that has been lingering in your mind,
ever since she told you about it.
That is distracted.

Distracted is….
When your mom is yelling,
already at the top of her lungs,
while your favorite T.V. show is on
that you for sure can't miss,
because your friend finally got you the
message,
that your favorite show is going to be on
with your favorite singer as a guest star on it.
That is distracted.

Distracted is your whole life.
Brothers fighting,
sisters screeching,
mom waiting,
dad trying to whistle,
dog barking,
grandparents kissing,
aunts pinching cheeks,
and your best friend whispering.
That is what distracted is.

                       Water

The water is as blue as a sapphire

           Crystal Clear               Icy Cold

The sun bouncing off of the water

           Sitting in a chair

                      Feet in the rough sand

Summer breeze chilly

Next to the sapphire blue water

                      Painting a picture

           Illustrating the birds, eating bread

Resting by the crystal clear water

                      Or floating on it

           Here I am.
